28th March, 2024

Mold on waterproof fabric is a common issue if stored improperly, whether it is on outdoor gear, tents, or even shower curtains!

In this blog post, we will learn how to successfully remove mold from waterproof fabric.

Identifying the Mold

Before starting the removal process, it’s essential to confirm that the substance on the fabric is indeed mold.

Mold can appear as dark spots or patches (sometimes it could even be white), with a ‘musty’ odor. Distinguishing mold from dirt or mildew is vital as removal methods vary.

How to Remove Mold from Waterproof Fabric

Step 1  – Brush Off Visible Mold

Use a soft brush to remove any visible mold from the surface.

Step 2 – Prepare Cleaning Solution

Mix equal parts water with either white vinegar or bicarb soda.

Step 3 – Scrub it

Gently scrub the affected areas with the cleaning solution using a sponge, ensuring thorough coverage. Avoid anything harsh to not damage the fabric.

Step 4 – Rinse Thoroughly

Rinse the fabric thoroughly with clean water.

Step 5 – Air Dry Completely

Allow the fabric to air dry completely in a well-ventilated area. Avoid tumble dryer due to the waterproof properties.

Step 6 – Ensure it is Dry

Ensure the fabric is entirely dry before storing or using.
